Mentorship Training Manual Step-By-Step Instructions for Teaching + IWC Policies and Procedures Main Information Admin Work Exchange Prep Talk Now Writing Roadmap Write Track Just Talk Computers FAQ Mentors at the IWC primarily teach the IWC programs but are further responsible for other areas of teaching and maintenance. They may include and are not limited to: Mentoring (Teaching) Talk Now (Prep Course) Guide students through the speaking program. Details on the Talk Now tab. Be Careful The IWC does not offer editing services to graduate students or academic and research papers. Note: graduate students are allowed to join any courses, however they MUST follow the IWC policies. Mentor (Non-teaching) EDITING Occasionally, the Director may ask for your help in reading over program-specific documents. Furthermore, there may be additional documents or projects you can be a part of. MAINTENANCE All Mentors are responsible for keeping the center clean and presentable. Vacuuming, waste disposal, dusting and cleaning are required weekly. Don't wait to be told. RECEPTION While you are not with a student, a Mentor MUST be ready for any student coming into the IWC. Whenever ANYONE walks into the center, stand up and greet them warmly. HOURS Log your total hours on the Mentor Homepage (knuiwc.com) at the end of each shift. Payday is typically around the 17th of each month. Pay is handled through the OIA. PROGRAM AWARENESS You are responsible for learning and knowing all the programs and policies of the job. Stay informed, train hard, and ask questions often. If you have any questions, ask the Team Leader first. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT This is a job. The IWC operates as a department of education at KNU and it is your duty to look and act professionally while working. Respect your co-Mentors, students, staff, and members of the OIA. One of the problems about Korean society is that the people’s thoughts are trapped within the nation. This leads to hindering opportunities for students to study abroad, which ultimately leads to the downfall of Korean society. Through studying outside of the country, students can then learn and be aware of how the world works. Studying abroad is beneficial to students because it provides a chance for students to develop themselves and expand their horizons. First, studying in a foreign country can foster personal growth. Having an experience to live outside of your comfort zone will make students independent and more mature. In my experience, living in Canada taught me how to live along with people from other backgrounds. Trying to understand other cultures and accepting people for who they are made me who I am now. Also, since my mother couldn’t speak English very well, doing things alone has helped me become more independent. Thus, studying abroad is a great chance for self-development. Second, students can see the world from a global perspective. Living and working with people from diverse cultures can increase cultural awareness and understanding of global issues. According to the IIE, 95% of students who studied abroad said that the experience has had a lasting impact on their worldview, making them more globally aware and culturally sensitive. This is relatable because when I was in Canada, I went to school with students from 7 different countries and I could learn how to respect different customs and traditions. Through this experience, it made it easier for me to meet new people and understand their thoughts. Therefore, to be able to think in a wider point of view, students should study abroad. For the reasons above, I strongly believe that studying abroad for students has many advantages. As a person who has had a chance to study in Canada, I highly recommend going outside of the country and having a chance to see the world in a wider point of view. Doing so will help improve language skills and problem solving methods which will eventually bring students the life of their dreams. If you want lifelong memories and friendship beyond borders, you should definitely consider studying abroad.
